## Manufacturing Mulberry was born in 1971 in Somerset, England where approximately 50% of our bags are still made, across our two factories that are home to over 500 craftspeople. In 2019, these factories achieved carbon neutrality and we partnered with a Zero Waste to Landfill waste service provider. Target: Global Carbon Neutrality by 2025.
## Made in the UK Mulberry is the largest employer in the village of Chilcompton, Somerset, home to our flagship factory, The Rookery. Our second factory opened at The Willows in 2013 to help increase our UK production. Somerset is also home to our product development and repairs centres and our Artisan Studio, where we create special limited-edition products and collaborations.
## Our Principles We have high ethical and environmental standards that we expect our global partners and suppliers to uphold. We set these out in our Global Sourcing Principles and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure these standards are being met. You can view our full [Global Sourcing Principles]( and learn more about Mulberry’s Approach in our [California Transparency Act]( and [Modern Slavery Act]( statements.
## Packaging Mulberry is focussed on introducing new, innovative packaging solutions - customer facing and throughout our supply chain – to reduce the impact we are having on our planet. Mulberry Green is not only the name of our global responsibility commitments, but also the name of our signature colour and packaging. We worked with local UK suppliers in the Lake District to create a beautiful, sustainable paper that is made with 20% upcycled coffee cups and 30% post-consumer waste, with the remaining 50% from FSC-certified sustainably managed forests.
## Manufacturing Achievements and Commitments * Our 2019 stationery is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council). * For SS20 44% of our customer facing packaging is kerbside recyclable and we aim to increase this to 100% by SS21. * Our UK operations (including factories, offices & directly operated retail stores) became carbon neutral in 2019, and we are targeting to achieve this globally by 2025. * For SS20 66% of our finished goods factories achieved a 100% Mulberry Gold standard in quality and social audits and our target is 100% by AW21. * For SS20 our Somerset and KCS sites and four UK retail stores will achieve zero waste to landfill certification, and our aim is for all UK locations to achieve this.
