Climate

The climate crisis is not a distant threat – it’s unfolding now. At Mulberry, we’re determined to be part of the solution.

We’re working toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, covering both our direct (Scope 1 & 2) and indirect (Scope 3) operations. Our near-term targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Leather is central to our product story, with bovine leather featured in over 90% of our products. While intensive cattle farming poses environmental challenges, we believe the issue lies not in the material itself, but in how it’s sourced. That’s why we’re cultivating direct relationships with farmers who work with nature to restore soil health, improve livestock welfare, and mitigate climate impacts.

This regenerative approach to leather reflects our sourcing philosophy across all categories - we partner only with suppliers who share our vision for a circular and regenerative luxury industry.

Progress

  • The Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) validated our near-term climate reduction targets in April 2024.
  • Mulberry Group plc commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions 37.8% by FY2028 from a FY2019 base year.
  • FLAG: Mulberry Group plc commits to reduce absolute scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions 33.3% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year. Mulberry Group plc also commits to no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities, with a target date of December 31, 2025.
  • In FY2025, we achieved a 23% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, driven by a mid-year transition to renewable electricity tariffs, improved refrigerant data accuracy, and the full-year impact of on-site solar energy generation at one of our UK factories, The Willows.
  • We invested in a 360kW solar photovoltaic array on the roof of The Willows – our second UK factory in Somerset. Installed in June 2023, it has since generated 437MWh of renewable electricity, contributing significantly to our decarbonisation efforts.
  • Our Somerset factories work with Zero Waste to Landfill providers, recovering energy from waste which cannot be reused or recycled.
  • All of our leather is sourced from environmentally certified tanneries, with over 99% audited by the Leather Working Group and the remainder holding ISO 14001 certification; additionally, two of our tanneries have undergone full ESG audits with the Sustainable Leather Foundation, of which we are founding partners, and we are working with them to implement social audits across our supply chain.
  • We continue to introduce new, innovative lower impact materials into our collections to replace conventional materials – such as our redeveloped BioVeg Scotchgrain – as well as increasing the percentage of certified materials within each range, such as GOTS.
  • Mulberry’s iconic green carrier bags are created from CupCycling, an innovative recycling process that transforms disposable coffee cups into beautiful paper. Our partners at the James Cropper paper mill have repurposed over 4.4 million coffee cups for Mulberry Green paper that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.
